THE NEXT BIG THING!

Everyone has a goal, something they work for, a push toward the 'Next Big Thing'. After raising my family and completing a satisfying career, I decided to finally take a deep breath and attempt MY next big thing. I retired, rolled up my sleeves, and started pounding the keyboard. To date, I have two of my Velvet Shoe Collection romantic intrigues published and am hard at work on the third. Every weekend is filled with new places and new people as I participate in book signings, festivals, radio and TV interviews and promos, and my favorite thing, the local libraries.

I hope you enjoy the questions asked and answered below and enjoy the blogs I've featured here. So hop over to the blogs listed and enjoy a fun experience reading about the great books and authors out there for your enjoyment.

A big shout out and warm thank you to Ann Everett for tagging me on this blog. Please check out her blog www.anneverett.com and read about her new release, You're Busting My Nuptials. It's laugh out loud funny.

Now for the questions. :)

What is the working title of your book?

Where did the idea come from for your book?

An Unlikely Beginning is the sequel and the 2nd in the series of my Velvet Shoe Collection. The stories are based on my grandmother's arranged marriage during the 'roaring twenties'. I grew up hearing the stories of her escapades and became fascinated with her life. I did alot of research and discovered the dangers faced in 1929 Detroit, Michigan and found the basis for her flight from the city when my father was very young.

What genre does your book fall under?

Most categorize it as historical fiction. I like to think it's a romantic intrigue or mystery because of all the surprises and twists and turns in the story.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in the movie rendition?

Well, that's easy. In a perfect world, Catherine Zeta Jones would be a perfect match, except my female character, Ruth, is only 17 years old. I think a great second choice would be Keira Knightly.

For the male lead, again, in a perfect world, Robert Redford fits the bill physically in his younger years. Now, I would pick Daniel Craig!

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Danger lurks in 1929 Detroit, Michigan and once more finds Ruth Squire in a life threatening situation trying to save her missing fiance, Peter Kirby, from the mob.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

An Unlikely Beginning, as well as its counterpart, An Unlikely Arrangement, is represented by Desert Coyote Productions, Inc.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

An Unlikely Beginning took me about 8 months to write the first draft.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

That's a hard question because my books are like no others, but if you want to get a feel for the era, I'd say 'Vixen' By Jillian Larking. The movie 'Chicago' really comes close to the feel of the story, also.

Who or what inspired you to write this story?

My infallible curiosity inspired me to write this story. All my life I heard the whispers about my grandmother and her 'other' life. After I was grown, curiosity forced me to seek out the answers. What I found exceeded all my expectations. I had to write it.

What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?

I like to say murder, mystery, and mayhem with a touch of romance is what my book is about. If you are like me, you like the unexpected and that's what you get with my books. You will never be able to guess by the 1st chapter or 1st few chapters what is about to happen. These aren't cookie cutter stories. They are based on a true story and life is always stanger than fiction!

I want to thank my pal Ann Everett for asking me to hop with her. I've really enjoyed sharing this time with all of you. Please check out the author below. She has graciously agreed to participate in the hop.
