Today, I am so pleased to have Romance Author Evelyn M. Byrne as my guest!

Thank you for coming. Would you tell our
viewers a little bit about yourself?

Evelyn: First Patty, I would like to thank you for having me here.

I am married to a wonderful man named Kevin. I have two grown daughters, Theresa, who is a graphic artist and designed both my book covers and Angie, who owns a dog business back in the Chicago area. I have a love for Old English Sheep Dogs, but at the moment I only have one, Bridie. When I am not working on my writing, I love to read, travel, and spend time with my family and friends, and redecorate/remodel our house. I was born in Dublin, Ireland and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. I lived in Tucson, Arizona for seven years during my first marriage, before moving back, once again, to Chicago. I met Kevin while going through Naprapathic school and fifteen years ago, we moved to East Texas. We live out in the country on almost six acres, which is gorgeous and peaceful, perfect for writing. I may not enjoy the heat of the summers here, but it sure beats the snow and cold of the winters up north.

You were born in Ireland. Wonderful! Can you share some history with us?

Ireland is probably one of the most magical countries in the world. It is littered with castles, ruins, and history, and steeped in folklore. That is likely why so many authors use it in there books. You know the song by Johnny Cash - The Forty Shades of Green. Well, if you're lucky enough to fly into Ireland on a sunny morning, you will see just that. Spread out before you is a patchwork quilt, the patches are fields, and the stitching is the stone walls surrounding them. Then you have the people who make you feel so welcome. The cities have become much the same as any city in the world, but when you go to the small towns, you can feel the old world charm.

What a rich history and magical setting! No wonder your novels are set there. Absolutely enchanting. Tell us, Evelyn, we'd like to know what books, or authors you admire, and who are your inspirations?

Evelyn: Good grief, if I did that we would be here for hours. I don't think I could narrow it down to even just a few. I love to read paranormal romance and romantic suspense. I like reading novels with happy endings. The more I socialize with other authors, the more new authors I want to read. It got to the point that I had so many books, I ran out of room on my bookshelves and closet, so my husband bought me a Kindle. Now the hard part is trying to keep up with all my reading and still find time to write.

Explain what you write and why.

Evelyn: I write paranormal romance. I am currently working on the Daughter of Prophecy series. Unknown Magic and Stolen Magic, the first two in the series, are published. Book three, Lost Magic, is due out sometime in July.

Combining the facts that I'm from Ireland and that I love reading paranormal romance, it was only natural for my writing to gravitate in that direction. I was always drawn to Newgrange when I visited Ireland and thought what a great place to have my novel revolve around.

I had the prologue to Unknown Magic sitting in my computer for years. One night I dreamt about it, the next day I pulled it out, and started writing. I took awhile to formulate what this little girl would be, but Newgrange kept coming into my head. So after a bit of research, I found folklore indicating that when the Tuatha de Danann were conquered by the Milesians in about 2000BC, they chose to go to ground under prehistoric tombs such as Newgrange. As Celtic lore goes, they became the faires or wee people(Leprachauns) of Ireland, who are also known as the Sidhe. And I guess the rest is as you would say, is history.

You've certainly done your research, Evelyn. Do you write at any certain time of the day?

Evelyn: I try to work 9-5 daily. During that time frame, I do writing or revising, and some of that time is spent social networking, answering emails, critiquing, and other writing related things.

What about atmosphere? Do you need quiet when you write, or do you play music, etc.?

Evelyn: That depends on my mood. Most of the time, I need absolute quiet, yet there are occasions when I need to play Celtic music to put me in the right frame of mind.

Do you have favorite characters in your books, and if so,why?

Evelyn: Usually, the characters I write about at the moment are my favorites, but I have to say, I have a special place in my heart for Seamus, Sean, and Donavan.

Are you working on a project right now?

Evelyn: At the moment, I am working on the revisions for Lost Magic (not my favorite thing to do), as well as writing book four and planning book five.

Thank you so much for spending time with us, today, Evelyn. We've enjoyed a look into your world of paranormal romance and the rich history of Ireland. Please look below to see excerpts from Evelyn's books!

Megan soon realizes fighting her attraction for Seamus is a losing battle. But when the people hunting Seamus track them down, Megan and Seamus are faced with a much for immediate deadly treat-a battle for the lives of all the Tuatha De' Danann. Can they overcome their pursuers and win?

STOLEN MAGIC

A GUEST INTERVIEW WITH LISA ALEXANDER GRIFFIN

AN INTERVIEW WITH ROMANCE AUTHOR LISA ALEXANDER GRIFFIN

Today, I am privileged to welcome Author Lisa Alexander Griffin as my guest. Welcome Lisa!

I'm very excited to have you here to share with us. I'd like to ask you a few questions, so our viewers can learn about your journey as a writer and get to know you.

LISA: Thank you, Patty. I'm very glad to be here.

Great, let's get started!

Tell us where you grew up, and a little background, and why you like where you live.

LISA: Not much to tell, Patty. I grew up in Courtland, a quaint little town, nestled between Decatur and Florence, Alabama, and located about six miles from General Joe Wheeler's plantation home. Even now a person can walk the streets and sense its rich southern history.

After my husband and I married, we settled in Somerville, another small town. Thirty-four years later and I'm still here! LOL! Must be I enjoy a laidback lifestyle, open spaces, and friendly neighbors.

For more information about my background, read Childhood Memories on my website: http://www.lisaalexandergriffin.com/childhoodmemories.htm

What books or authors do you admire, and who are your inspirations?

LISA: Well, like so many of us did, as a young girl, I started out reading Nancy Drew mysteries. As I grew older, my grandmother passed down all her Harlequin paperbacks. I fell in love with romance. LOL! So naturally, I delved into novels by Danielle Steele, Nora Roberts, Cassey Edwards, Jude Deveraux, and Fern Michaels. When I want to take a walk on the dark side, I read Stephen King and Dean Koontz. Each and every name listed above has inspired me in different ways.

What exactly do you write and why?

LISA: Contemporary, Romantic Suspense. Nothing better than the action and drama, the struggle and strife of the hero and heroine, as they overcome obstacles and fall in love.

Do you write at any certain time of the day?
LISA: Whenever I have free time. As a stay-at-home-mom there's always something to do, or someone to wait on. LOL! My twelve-year-old daughter keeps me busy, for sure. And we won't mention my hubby. ;) But, my preference for writing is late at night, when the house is quiet and everyone, but me, is in bed asleep. :)

Do you need quiet while you write, or do you play music, etc?

LISA: Quiet, although the TV is always playing in the background, if the volume is low it doesn't bother me. My office is a recliner and laptop table in the living room.

Which of your characters in your books are your favorites and why?

LISA: Probably Danielle and Ethan. They went through so much to find their happily ever after. My hope as a writer is to touch the lives of my readers in a significant way, and by addressing domestic violence issues in Danielle's Touch, to give women a glimmer of hope for a better life.

Blurb

Rebuilding her life after escaping an abusive marriage, Danielle Courtland throws herself into her new decorating business. Men are the last thing on her mind...until a Stetson-wearing cowboy enters her shop, that is.
The hazel-eyed cowboy needs her help. Restoring an old Victorian-styled plantation house, he realizes the job requires a feminine touch. Caught off guard by the sexiest woman he's ever laid eyes on, Ethan's vow to never love again is all but forgotten as he falls hard for the tempting decorator. Passion simmers, and love is no longer a dream. But hidden in the shadows, danger waits, threatening Danielle and Ethan's chance at a life together. Will a man, twisted by his obsession, separate them forever?

LISA: By the way, Danielle's Touch received a review from Miz Love Loves Books today. It brought tears to my eyes, and had me sniffling, and reaching for a tissue.

How exciting Lisa! Are you working on a project right now?

LISA: A few. One short with the tentative title of Torched and a Native American Historical Romance that will need lots of research.

Wonderful! We'll be looking forward them!

LISA: Before I leave, I'd like to mention my latest release. Hand of Fate. Although set around Christmastime, it's not your typical holiday read.

Blurb

Amidst the Christmas glitz and glitter, Karina Wither enters the mall. Unease prickles her spine. Seconds later, a gun blast echoes through the building. Shoppers rush for the exits, trampling Karina. Detective Josh Deloroso responds quickly, dragging the beautiful woman to safety. Attraction sizzles between them. But, he has a job to do first. The shooter must be stopped. Unfortunately, when the chaos ends, the 'real' danger begins.

Dark truths unravel. Passions explode. Fate plays its hand.

Can their relationship weather the storm of deceit? Or will a photo in the shooter's wallet end Josh and Karina's chance for love?

NEW YEAR! NEW BLOG!

I'm upgrading! A New Year, A New Blog! Here, I hope to share items of interest as I work to finish my novel. 2010 proved to be a key year for me. Several of my short stories were published on Angie's Diary, an e-magazine. Finally, I see my dream coming into the light, and I am very excited. A newfound confidence is slowly building my courage. The privilege to watch so many new friends grow in their success, and aspiring writers jumping on the bandwagon to fulfill their dreams, spurs me on! I hope you enjoy the journey with me.

My novel is set in the 1920's. It's a romance with a touch of mystery, based on the grandfather I never knew. Writing this novel has allowed me to find out so many things about him and the family I never knew existed. However, doing research about life in the 1920's gave me more insight into life, as it was, back then. I'd like to share that with you.

DID YOU KNOW THE RADIO WAS INVENTED IN 1920?

A series of dots and dashes, transmitted by inefficient machines is all radio transmissions consisted of before 1920. A Swedish-American engineer, Ernest Alexanderson is credited with inventing the present-day radio/television transmission. It took rigourous experimentation and hard work, but he invented a high frequency alternator for the first time with which transmission of radio waves became highly successful. He also invented a scanning disk and high-frequency neon lamps for television transmission. All this happened just a mere 90 years ago. It's amazing how technology has developed so fast and in such a short amount of time. No other century has this kind of speedy growth. When I was writing about my character I tried to
imagine her without the modern technologies we enjoy today. Fashion exploded into a new modern era for women and the amazing transformations since has been extraordinary to say the least.

HOW ABOUT HAIR DRYERS?

Believe it or not, women used to blow-dry their hair by inserting a flexible pipe in the exhaust of a vacuum cleaner. The first hair dryer was invented in 1920. I'm told the machine over-heated easily, but, of course, it was better than using a vacuum cleaner! Quite a contraption! I remember my mother telling me they use to curl their hair with strips of cloth tied in their hair. In the morning, they would have lovely curls. They had to untie them and shake them out, of course. I can't imagine a woman's husband being too exited coming to bed with his wife's hair all tied up in knots!! A far cry from our convenient steam rollers, curling irons, and flat irons. Aren't we girls lucky?

AND OF COURSE, YOU KNOW THE STORY OF THE INVENTION OF THE BAND-AID!

It seems Josephine Dickson loved being married, and tried her best to be a good homemaker to husband Earle Dickson. However, cooking was not her forte. After arriving home every evening for dinner to find his wife's fingers cut and injured, he finally devised a solution, a piece of tape with a small sized gauze in the middle. He placed this device on his wife's injured fingers. He began to sell these primitive bandges. Four years later Johnson & Johnson bought the rights from their employee, Mr. Dickson, massed produced them and called them "Band-Aids". The best is history.

I hope you've enjoyed these little tid-bits from the 1920's and hope you will tune in next week for more interesting facts from that era. I'm off to edit the next chapter of my novel!!
